Canadian Naval Ensign

The Canadian Forces Naval Ensign (formerly known as the Naval Jack until May 2013) is the flag flown at the stern of Her Majesty's Canadian ships.

Introduced in 1968, it replaced the National Flag of Canada as the naval jack of the Canadian Forces. The National Flag had replaced both the White Ensign at the ensign staff and the Canadian Blue Ensign at the jack staff in 1965, and the National Flag remained the ensign of Canadian Forces ships until May 5th 2013, after which the former Naval Jack was adopted as the new Naval Ensign.

The flag consists of:
Canadian Maple Leaf flag
Naval crown

The emblem is one element used to create badge of the flag of the unified Canadian Forces.

Some of our military flags are finished with Inglefield Clips (also known as Sister Clips or Brummel Hooks).  Traditionally used by the Royal Navy, one pair of Inglefield clips should be attached to the halyard (rope) on the flagpole so the pair on the flag can quickly and easily be attached at each end of the header (closed sleeve).

Separate pairs of Inglefield Clips are available to purchase in our Outdoor Hardware section.
